Natural Born Killers (1994)

Natural Born Killers (1994)
Oliver Stone’s film? Awful.

More than 12 murders worldwide have been cited as copycat crimes induced by the perpetrators’ viewing of Natural Born Killers. The sweetest irony of the controversy surrounding this notorious film is that Quentin Tarantino intended for Natural Born Killers to be a satire on the media’s sensationalisation and glorification of violence. The film’s tagline is, after all, “The Media Made Them Superstars”. Maybe it would have helped if Mickey Knox had not been played by someone as attractive as Woody Harrelson.

In addition, the flashing images and sequences that punctuate the narrative are extremely gaudy and garish. I am aware that Natural Born Killers is supposed to be a highly stylised film, but the nauseating visuals left me with an annoying headache. No wonder people become agitated enough to kill after watching Natural Born Killers.
